100 Block Parties

The Council Bluffs community spoke and we listened! The result: 100 Block Parties over the next year. Many Council Bluffs residents shared helpful, unique thoughts and ideas during "Let's Talk About CB" community surveys and workshops in 2015. One thought surfaced again and again: residents want more opportunities to connect and celebrate with their neighbors.

During September 2016, in response to this idea, the Mayor's Office, along with its partners, kicked off a year-long, city-wide celebration called "100 Block Parties." Mayor Matt Walsh is inviting you to host a block party. The invitation is open to everyone; Council Bluffs residents, businesses, organizations, non-profits, schools, etc. "100 Block Parties is about celebrating the people, places, history and the happenings that make us proud to live and work in Council Bluffs," said Walsh.

City employees helped the Mayor kick off the 100 Block Party celebration Sunday, September 25th. Almost 300 employees and their families played games, mingled and celebrated working and living in the UNparalleled community of Council Bluffs.

If you're interested in hosting a block party, you can register your party here, where you can also access a free block party toolkit and view upcoming block parties. The toolkit contains helpful party planning advice, suggested themes and activities, information about safety, city permits and more.  Block party hosts will receive free items, including a Council Bluffs UN t-shirt. They will also be eligible to win block party awards and monthly raffle prizes. Hosts and attendees should post pictures on the UNleash CB facebook page with the hashtag #100BlockParties to be eligible for the monthly drawings.

Mayor Walsh said almost any event could be considered a block party. "Of course we want you to think of your next-door neighbors," he said. "But block parties can, and should, extend to your neighbors at work, school and other community organizations in which you belong."

Since Council Bluffs is "UNlike Anywhere Else. On Purpose", block parties can be UNtraditional, UNlimited and UNdeniably Council Bluffs.

100 Block Parties will run through September 2017, and will conclude with a community-wide 100th Block Party on Saturday, September 2, 2017 on the 100 Block in Council Bluffs. Facebook event @unleashcb
