The City- County Connector Trail is listed in the Metropolitan Area Transportation Agency (MAPA) current Transportation Improvement Program and approved in the current Statewide Transportation Improvement Program. The City received $461,000.00 in federal funding administered through the Iowa Department of transportation (IDOT) for this estimated $575,059 project. Once completed, the one-mile connector trail will connect the city trail system to a wider county trail system along Railroad Highway, from Kanesville Blvd. to the northern Council Bluffs corporate limits. Connecting the existing City trails with the County’s mainly rural system offers a unique opportunity for both rural and urban residents to experience expanded trail environments.
The project area was surveyed and the project team is currently reviewing alignment options for the trail.
